Being located within blocks of the new Rogers Place has certainly brought in new diners to Sofra, but those planning on visiting before an Oilers game should know that good food takes time. Don’t go to Sofra with half an hour to go before faceoff; instead, go early and give yourself time to fully enjoy the food, wine, and atmosphere. Chef and owner Yuksel Gultekin takes his food seriously — and that is evidenced in the careful preparation and fresh ingredients that go into each dish. Take, for example, the pita, which is made in-house on the stone oven. But, it’s the lamb that is the favourite here, which is tenderly grilled and perfectly seasoned. At the end of your meal, you can thank Gultekin himself, since he’s often seen mingling with his diners. —Jasmine Salazar
