MEAT is known for its carnivorous creations — after all, the specialty is literally in the name. If you stop by for brunch, you can get everything from fried chicken and waffles to an eggs benedict topped with mouthwatering beef brisket. In fact, there is only one sweet option amongst the savoury dishes on the brunch menu — but we assure you, it’s not an afterthought. The peaches and cream waffle is basically as close to having a decadent dessert for brunch as you can get away with — and you absolutely need to try it.
The dish starts with a solid base — a delicious Belgian waffle that is delicately crisp on the outside and soft on the inside, cooked to golden perfection. Atop that are bourbon peaches you’ll wish you could buy by the jarful — they’re soft and tender, tossed with just enough bourbon to give them that distinctive flavor, and sprinkled liberally with aromatic, warming spices such as cinnamon and nutmeg. Then, for a little added texture, the entire dish is sprinkled with a rich, buttery crumble topping that takes everything to a whole new level. Oh, and there are a few healthy dollops of whipped cream on top, because brunch is all about treating yourself, right?
So many sweet waffle dishes can be underwhelming — canned whip cream, lackluster fruit compote, a waffle that has lost all its crispness — but this one delivers. Every component is well executed, and you’ll find yourself making sure you’ve gotten every last piece of crumble and every last bit of sauce off your plate. It’s the perfect way to start your weekend.
