Kerensa Haynes’ new exhibition “From Afar” comes to the Bugera Matheson Gallery from August 4 to 19. Haynes’ varied work is rooted in the practice of painting, and reflects her interest in combining styles throughout art history.

Join Happy Harbor Comics owner Jay Bardyla on August 2 for a talk on the common factors between pop art, comic books, and hockey. Bardyla will focus on “Hockeypocalypse,” a series written and illustrated by Edmonton comic artist Jeff Martin.

Dawson City: Frozen Time, a documentary that debuted last year, screens at the Garneau Theatre on July 31, August 2 and August 3. The documentary features the true history of a collection of 500 films from the 1910s and 1920s which had been lost for decades before being uncovered in a sub-arctic swimming pool. Get a unique perspective on a Canadian gold rush town in this must see documentary.

Calgary artist Kale Vandenbroek’s exhibition “Autospect” opened at Latitude 53 on July 28. The exhibition examines the self, and Vandenbroek’s process involved pasting an image down and wearing it away, reflecting on narratives of introspection and a cast of personalities.

From August 2 to 6, Cally’s Tea is transforming into the Hogwarts great hall. There will be treats from Honeyduke’s and afternoon tea with items including pumpkin pasties and treacle tarts. And, if you’re looking for a more savoury feast, there will be a boarding school dinner on August 3 — complete with Butterbeer on tap.
