Listen to a ukulele virtuoso perform

Known for his fast and complex finger work, ukulele virtuoso Jake Shimabukuro is redefining the instrument. He mixes jazz, rock, classical, traditional Hawaiian music and folk to create a unique sound that can’t be missed. Jake has also been the subject of an award-winning documentary, Jake Shimabukuro: Life on Four Strings. He will be performing at Festival Place on March 10.

Celebrate International Women’s Day with a film screening

On March 8, in celebration of International Women’s Day, the Junior League of Edmonton is hosting a film screening of Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide. There will be a panel discussion regarding some of the issues discussed in the documentary, which features women and girls living in difficult circumstances around the world.

Check out the 5th Annual SkirtsAFire herArts Festival

The 5th annual edition of the SkirtsAFire herArts Festival comes to venues along 118 Avenue from March 9 to 12. Enjoy the work of women in theatre, music, dance, visual art, comedy and spoken word in a variety of performances, exhibitions and workshops.

Enjoy some Spanish song and dance

Direct from Seville, Spain, six internationally acclaimed performers bring the traditional style of flamenco puro to the stage. The production, Tablao Sevilla, features an exceptional cast of performers including flamenco legend Carmen Ledesma — and it all takes place on March 10.

Experience a multi-disciplinary performance about multi-generational relationships

In Blood of Our Soil, a multi-disciplinary performance experience, live Ukrainian folk music, Ukrainian and contemporary dance, and a projection design painting are all integrated into one production. The performance tells the story of Anna, a Ukrainian-Canadian woman who learns more about her grandmother’s life and past, and her family history. The complex performance runs from March 9 to 11.
