A week of festivals, from music downtown to yoga and wellness.

October 2, 2017

Combine your love of music with the chance to explore downtown

This year’s Up + Downtown Music Festival kicks off on October 6, in various venues throughout the downtown core. The line-up includes Wintersleep, Nuela Charles, The Provincial Archive, Cadence Weapon and more.

Get in touch with your inner yogi

From October 5 to 8, Bloom Festival 2017 will take over the Shaw Conference Centre. The packed schedule includes the opportunity to learn more about wellness, see Daniela Andrade in concert, get your body moving with yoga and running and much more.

Shaw Conference Centre, 9797 Jasper Ave., itstimetobloom.com

Learn how to master the perfect thanksgiving meal

A bit intimidated at the idea of pulling together a thanksgiving feast? Not to worry — stop by Get Cooking Edmonton on October 5 for a crash course with Doreen Prei and Kathryn Joel. You’ll learn how to butcher your bird and cook it three ways, and put together a menu including smoked haddock, corn chowder, sweet potato biscuits, sides for the turkey as well as pumpkin pie.

Revisit a cinematic classic on the big screen

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Dirty Dancing, Metro Cinema is screening the flick on October 5 — so if you haven’t had the chance to see it on the big screen yet, now is the perfect opportunity.

Garneau Theatre, 8712 109 St., 780-425-9212, metrocinema.org

Listen to some classic hits with The Music of ABBA

If you’re a fan of pop superstars ABBA, make sure to check out The Music of ABBA on October 2. The talented cast will perform some of the group’s greatest hits, so if you never had the chance to see ABBA themselves perform live, this production might just be the next best thing.
