For its 26th season Mile Zero Dance continues to push the boundaries of innovative contemporary dance by having guest curators in charge of its salon series. This month, dancer and choreographer Kathleen Ochoa curates Boom, and new media artist Shawn Pinchbeck follows up with Bust in January 2011.
"Dance can always be a way to have a conversation and be a different way of thinking or experiencing," says Ochoa, who has studied and trained the world over, from New York City to Berlin, with a recent stint in Marseilles. Ochoa says Mile Zero's artistic director, Gerry Morita, has always pushed for interdisciplinary approaches using music, visual art, dance and theatre, so Ochoa's work in Boom is not all that different from past salons. "I might just push that envelope a little bit more."
