Final Touches

An exclusive look inside the new Art Gallery of Alberta

The wait is almost over. For five years, Edmontonians have watched the historic new Art Gallery of Alberta exterior take shape. The anticipation and debate over architect Randall Stout’s deconstructivist design, as well as the $88-million cost of the renovation, have made it the most talked-about city structure in recent memory.

But while the exterior has been well-publicized and exposed in plain sight, the interior has remained a mystery to most. Until now.

Before the new landmark reopens at the end of this month, Avenue got through the doors over the last few months for an exclusive first look inside to document the final touches in this photo essay.

It's a shame you can't run these photos larger (online) to show their true beauty. 4x5s are awesome. Will just have to pick up a hard copy, I guess!

I'm definitely looking forward to seeing the finished work and...I'm not even one of those high brow intellectuals...eh? Cheers!
