9 Edmonton Chefs You Should Follow on Instagram
Just as good with a camera as they are with a knife
Rosario Caputo, @cibobistro
Cibo featured in our Best Italian and Best Overall categories in March's Best Restaurants issue, and the owner's instagram provides a look behind the delicious scenes. The page is just as pasta-heavy as Cibo's menu, but also just as fresh.
Paul Shufelt, @chefpaulshufelt
Paul Shufelt was part of our Top 40 Under 40 class last year, and for good reason: he's a decorated and talented chef who has shared Edmonton's food culture with fellow Canadians as well as abroad. His newest venture is The Workshop Eatery, a small southside restaurant with a focus on local, handcrafted cuisine.
Brayden Kozak, @braydenkozak
Brayden Kozak was on the cover of our March 2013 issue, when Three Boars (of which he is co-owner and chef) was awarded Best New Restaurant. The eatery has since then carved out a niche as one of the city's premiere spots to get a drink and enjoy some small plates; Kozak's instagram is a visual history.
Corey Meyer, @corythebutcher
Ok so he's not a chef, but Corey Meyer's love of knives runs just as deep as the best of them. The shots from his butcher shop ACME Meat Market are compelling if you don't mind bit of blood and gore, and his taxidermy is downright amazing (how does he get the skulls so white?).
Ben Staley, @benmstaley
Ben Staley was one of the opening chefs for North 53, but left shortly after to focus on his own restaurant. It's going to be called the Alder Room and, if the snaps on Staley's instagram are any indication, it's going to be a hit when it opens next year.
Andrew Cowan, @chefcowan
Packrat Louie's Andrew Cowan took home the silver medal at last month's Gold Medal Plates competition for his expertly-prepared pork loin charcuterie. He has a penchant for sharing pictures of the brunchy fare for which Packrat Louie has become known: all manner of salads, sandwiches, fruit and waffles piled high with chicken.
Cory Rakowski, @chefcory780
Another Gold Medal Plates awardee, chef Rakowski took home the bronze in October. He's no stranger to using every part of the animal — shots of pigs' feet and bleached skulls feature prominently on his page.
David Leeder, @davidwleeder
Formerly of RGE RD, David Leeder's culinary career has taken him to Copenhagen and Lasarte, Spain. He's presently working with Dela, a pop-up restaurant back in Edmonton that emphasizes foraged seasonal ingredients and offerings from local farmers.
Brad Smoliak, @kitchenbybrad
Brad Smoliak's instagram is a window into the team-building, culinary lessons and generally fantastic cooking that goes down at Kitchen by Brad.
