Best Food Truck

photography by Curtis Trent

Avenue began ranking food trucks as part of the Best Restaurants package back in 2013, and Drift has finished atop the poll each and every year. In that time, proprietors Nevin and Kara Fenske have opened a standalone shop, Dovetail Delicatessen, on 124th Street. But that doesn’t mean we can expect the lineups at the Drift truck to get any shorter. Whether it’s the gourmet sandwiches or that unmistakable house-made ketchup that pops with cardamom, Drift will continue to entice us with elevated takes on global favourites.

The pork belly sandwich is a delicious take on the Vietnamese bánh mí, while the buttermilk fried chicken sandwich is a salute to one of our favourite comfort foods. But don’t take our word for it; when the temperatures rise, go check out that lineup in front of the truck. All of those important critics have already spoken. —Steven Sandor

Bully Food Truck

At first glance, Bully’s diverse menu seems like a perplexing mish-mash. After all, it contains everything from bánh mí sandwiches to barbecue ribs to coq au vin. However, the vibrant orange hue of the truck hints at what they all have in common — bold flavours.

Take, for example, the Philly beef — a customer favourite. The beef brisket is dry-rubbed with coffee and slow-roasted until succulent, then mixed with peppers and onions, topped with a generous helping of Bully’s addictive cheese sauce, and drizzled with aioli. Sailin’ On

It’s still Edmonton’s only food vegan food truck, and it’s still a place where foodies of all walks of life can go to get a quick and dirty, dangerously delicious pile of fries. Ranging from standard cuts to the delectable Irish (curry chips served under a heaping pile of vegan cheddar and garlic mayo, cabbage, carrot and green onion), the fries can be a meal all on their own. And while we’ve often touted the BLT wrap as a triumph of vegan fare, the masterfully compiled chili lime tofu burrito — served with a mouthwatering mix of refried beans, rice and taco vegetables — is equally impressive. —Cory Haller
