5 Things To Do This Week: August 7 to 11

A pajama party under the stars, a beloved music festival and more.

August 4, 2017

Snag a spot in Gallagher Park

From August 10 to 13, Edmonton Folk Fest is returning — and even if you can’t make it out on all four days, stop by for a show on Thursday or Friday evening. The acts on August 10 and 11 include Shakey Graves, Brandi Carlile, The Decemberists and more.

Listen to young orchestral talents

The National Youth Orchestra of Canada is in the midst of a national tour, and on August 8, they’re stopping by Edmonton. The repertoire will include music by Wagner, Shostakovich, Strauss and Ravel.

Experience a pajama party under the stars

On August 11, head out to the University of Alberta Botanical Gardens for a unique experience — a pajama party under the stars. Stargaze with the Royal Astronomical Society, learn more about the constellations, take part in games and stories in the gardens and more.

Sample beer from across the prairies

Sherbrooke Liquor is serving up beer from across Alberta and Saskatchewan for their All You Can Travel Via Beer event on August 10. Sample flights of local brews, and find a few new favourites.

Travel back in time with a classic musical

Fort Edmonton Park’s Cinema Series brings classic films to the big screen once again at the Capitol Theatre, and on August 10, they’re screening the 1952 classic Singing In The Rain. Enjoy a picnic in the park, and experience the classic for the first time — or, for the first time on the big screen.
