Canada Day Fireworks Downtown
If all you’re interested in is checking out some amazing fireworks for Canada Day, don’t miss the big downtown fireworks display. The display kicks off at 11:00 pm and there are several great viewing locations in the city. According to the city, you can check out the show on the Alberta Legislature Grounds, Government House Park, Ezio Faraone Park and RE/MAX Field, as well as the only-accessible-on-foot Victoria Park, 109 Street (between Saskatchewan Drive and the High Level Bridge) and Walterdale Hill Road and Queen Elizabeth Park Road.

Thanks to the support of Dentons, The Art Gallery of Alberta is offering free admission on Canada Day. There will be fun activities for families, as well as the opportunity to explore some of the stunning exhibitions.

Check out the new addition to the University of Alberta Botanic Garden
If you’re looking for a more peaceful way to celebrate the national holiday, head outside the city to the University of Alberta Botanic Garden. From 11:00 am to 3:00 pm, they’ll have live music, children’s activities and Canada Day cake, all in an idyllic setting. And, the Aga Khan Garden opens on June 29 — so you can be one of the first to see the stunning addition.

Spend the day in a stunning national park
Head east of the city to Elk Island National Park for Canada Day. You can explore the islands of Astotin Lake in a canoe, have a picnic in a gorgeous setting, get a glimpse of some of the amazing creatures in the park and enjoy live music.

Lace up your running shoes for a road race
If you’re looking a way to kick off Canada Day celebrations bright and early, lace up your running shoes and take part in the Canada Day Road Race 2018, which starts at 7:00 am. There are a variety of distances, from a 15K run to a 2.5K family fun event.

Spend the day at a Whyte Avenue block party
The Blues on Whyte Block Party returns for its 7th year, and it promises a full day of events you won’t want to miss. Things kick off with a pancake breakfast at 10:00 am, then there will be three stages with seven bands performing throughout the day, as well as food trucks and other vendors.
