One wild day more than 25 years ago, brothers Greg and Martin Thompson were preparing dishes in the kitchen of their Edmonton restaurant, Beans and Barley. Their older brother, Bill, was visiting and entered the chaos to help out in the kitchen and joked, “Somebody should make a board game about this crazy industry.”
That remark led to the brothers’ 20-year obsession to create Duck Soup.
The new game sees players running their own restaurants by answering realistic questions about food and cooking, while occasionally being intercepted by cards informing them that a star chef has just quit, or that the cost of ingredients has doubled – all quandaries the brothers faced first-hand.
One dollar from every board game sold goes to Action Against Hunger, an organization dedicated to eradicating hunger around the world.
