New Restaurant: Love Pizza
What’s better than freshly cooked pizza in mere minutes?

Fast-food aficionados might remember the McDLT; it was a short-lived McDonald’s burger that went something like this – it was served open faced, so the tomato, lettuce and cheese didn’t get all gooey and mushy. The tag line was “the hot side stays hot, hot, hot and the cool side stays cool, cool, cool.” If you really want a history lesson on fast food fads, search YouTube for a pre-Seinfeld Jason Alexander singing the McDLT jingle.
Anyway, why mention that in relation to one of Edmonton’s newest pizza places? Well, Love Pizza is one of a growing trend of pizza places that can assemble and cook a pie within minutes, thanks to high-powered ovens.
You can either build your own or select one of the offerings from the menu: I choose the BBLT, which is topped with two types of bacon, cherry tomatoes and arugula on top. The dough is shaped into a football size, then covered in sauce, cheese and bacon. It goes through the oven; on the other side is a “cold” counter, with items that are meant to go on after the cooking process. The tomatoes and arugula are added there.
The result is a satisfying pizza, not too salty (thankfully), despite the bacon. It’s not greasy, and the arugula adds a cool, peppery finish.
Now, all Love Pizza needs is Jason Alexander singing a jingle in the aisles. OK, maybe not.
