Edmonton Urban Night Bike Ride

This Saturday, join a small group of Edmonton cyclists for a night of biking and exploring the city. There are limited spots available.

As the outdoor gathering rules have been relaxed significantly, one Edmontonian is organizing an urban night ride and is inviting fellow cyclists to join him this Saturday.

Organized by an Edmonton photographer and athlete, Nick Croken, the ride will cover about 60 to 75 km of the multi-use roads throughout the river valley. Croken is running this year’s ride through Hardcore Bikes. For the past few years, Croken has been hosting an annual bike ride at Elk Island Park.

The participants will meet at Rafters’ Landing at 10 p.m., where the ride will begin. There will be one or two stops for sightseeing and snacks along the way, and the ride will be approximately three hours long. The participants are instructed to bring their own food and repair supplies, since there will be no sharing due to the current COVID-19 guidelines.

While there will be no racing, the participants should be able to hold a speed of 28 km/h on a highway in order to join. The participants must also have a bright, non-flashing front light and a rear light that can be run solid.

Due to the limited number of spots available, Edmontonians are encouraged to register only if they’re able to attend.

While the organizer notes that the event will follow the current AHS guidelines on public outdoor gatherings, it is not affiliated with any official club in Edmonton. Due to this, the event description indicates that the participants should take caution and not register for the event if they’re uncomfortable with it.

Croken estimates the ride will end around 1 a.m.

You can register for the ride or contact the organizer through the Eventbrite page.
