The Silvering In Confinement shows have been moved online due to the COVID-19 situation. Presented by Mile Zero Dance, Silvering In Confinement is a dance for objects and humans — a concept developed by choreographer Thea Patterson, who is currently in residence at Mile Zero Dance with her partner, scenographer and visual artist Jeremy Gordaneer.

The event will be held as a Zoom performance on Friday, May 22 at 7 p.m. and on Saturday, May 23 at 2 p.m. The two-hour show is offered for free and the organizers welcome guests to pay what they want. All contributed funds will go towards providing opportunities for artists to create and present work. To watch the performance, guests will need to register in advance through the Eventbrite event page.

The creative team from across Canada and beyond has worked to create a show, guided by Patterson’s vision. The team includes Edmonton-based performers Jeanie Vanderkerkhove and Bittany Ball Snellen, as well as Edmonton’s Brayden Saunders (manager and tech support).

Silvering In Confinement is a gently playful and tender look at the connection between the dancing body and a menagerie of (mostly) silver objects.

As organizers put it, “These principles will continue to guide the work we do within the new confines and potentialities of the COVID context and the sudden intrusion of unexpected forms of mediation and new methods of transmission … This shift, while initially jarring, is also filled with possibility.”
