Why he’s a 2019 Top 40 Under 40: He brings a growth mindset to community-building.

David Bridges refuses to keep his industry knowledge to himself. As President of CompuVision, a rapidly-growing IT company formed in Edmonton, he makes education and knowledge sharing his priority. He especially believes in the power of leadership development and is always finding new ways to help people expand their horizons.

“Leadership is in every role and every body,” explains Bridges. “You don’t have to manage people to be a leader.”

Bridges created CompuVision’s internal Leadership Academy, which offers leadership education to employees in various stages of their careers. He’s also a guest lecturer at the Alberta School of Business and a volunteer with the University of Alberta’s Venture Mentoring Service (VMS), which connects emerging entrepreneurs with established guiding professionals.

Over the last seven years, CompuVision has more than tripled in size, employing around 200 individuals across Canada and the United States. In his professional and volunteer roles, Bridges identifies as an orchestrator and coach, following the same philosophy of sharing, rather than monopolizing, information. He’s also proud to be part of a company that invests back into the community; each year, CompuVision donates over $100,000 to its customers that represent charities, the most recent being Edmonton’s own Youth Empowerment and Support Services (YESS). For Bridges, aiding in the success of others is the bottom line.

“Edmonton is an entrepreneurial city,” he says. “I get excited about contributing to the effort to unlock its potential.”
